Fidan Engages Saudi, Qatari, And Jordanian Counterparts On Trump’s Gaza Ceasefire Plan

Ankara: Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan held phone calls last night with his Saudi counterpart Prince Faisal bin Farhan, Qatari counterpart Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, and Jordanian counterpart Ayman Safadi, to discuss developments following U.S. President Donald Trump’s announcement of a plan to end the war in the Gaza Strip.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the talks focused on the U.S. plan unveiled by the White House on Monday evening, which calls for a comprehensive ceasefire in Gaza and the launch of a political dialogue between Israel and the Palestinians to secure peaceful coexistence and a stable future for the territory.

The initiative includes a suspension of Israeli military operations, including air and artillery strikes, for 72 hours starting from Israel’s public declaration of acceptance of the agreement. During this period, all prisoners would be released, and the remains of the deceased handed over. Hamas would also release the remains of one Israeli prisoner in e
xchange for the remains of 15 Palestinians.

Under the plan, the Israeli army would gradually withdraw according to timelines linked to a disarmament process, while Israel would commit, after completing prisoner exchanges, to releasing 250 inmates serving life sentences as well as 1,700 detainees from Gaza arrested after October 7, 2023.

The plan also pledges the immediate and full entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza upon acceptance of the agreement, with aid expanded in areas described in the proposal as ‘terror-free zones’ should Hamas delay or reject its implementation.
