Fidan Urges Israel to Honor Gaza Ceasefire and Avoid Provocations

Ankara: Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan emphasized that Israel must adhere to the ceasefire agreement in Gaza and avoid any provocations that could disrupt the peace process or perpetuate violence against the Palestinian people.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Fidan highlighted the significance of the agreement, which is the first phase of U.S. President Donald Trump’s ceasefire plan, developed after extensive consultations and negotiations, some of which took place in Egypt. The plan has received approval from the Israeli government.

Fidan explained that the initial phase of the plan involves the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza, the return of displaced Palestinians to their homes, and the withdrawal of Israeli forces to designated areas as outlined in the agreement. He stressed the importance of executing these steps without delays or obstacles, urging the international community to focus on ensuring the smooth implementation of the agreement and preventing any Israeli actions that could reignite conflict or prolong civilian suffering.

The Turkish Foreign Minister stated that Turkey is committed to supporting the agreement’s implementation on the ground and will work to raise global awareness and mobilize diplomatic efforts to sustain it. Fidan emphasized the necessity of moving forward to subsequent phases of the agreement to achieve a lasting solution, warning that any interruptions could result in renewed violence. He called for coordinated international and regional efforts to reach a two-state solution.

Fidan further noted that the current focus is on implementing the first phase, which includes the ceasefire, prisoner exchange, and humanitarian aid delivery. The second phase will deal with issues related to Gaza’s governance, security, and internal order. He concluded by stressing the need for ‘constant attention and focused effort’ to manage this process effectively, assuring that Turkey will oversee the process with ‘great precision and care’ to achieve lasting peace in the region.
