Baghdad: The Minister of Finance is holding a meeting to finalize the requirements for prepayment of customs duties. Finance Minister Faleh Sari held an expanded meeting on Saturday to finalize the requirements for implementing the decision on the prepayment of customs duties and tax deposits.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, a statement from the Ministry of Finance indicated that “the meeting was attended by Undersecretary of the Ministry Ali Karim, Director General of the General Authority of Customs Thamer Qasim Dawood, the directors of the Accounting and Information Technology departments, as well as representatives from the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).”

The statement continued, “The meeting addressed the technical, financial, and administrative requirements for implementation, and the mechanisms for linking electronic systems. The Director General of the General Authority of Customs presented a summary of the progress made in implementing these requirements and the remaining procedures for completion, emphasizing the Authority’s readiness to coordinate with the Ministry’s departments and supporting entities to implement the decision.”

According to the statement, the Minister stressed “ensuring the accuracy of the collection processes and tightening oversight to enhance the protection of public funds and contribute to maximizing public revenues.”
