Syria: A fire broke out and riots erupted in Ain al-Arab (Kobani) prison in the Aleppo countryside of northern Syria, resulting in deaths and injuries.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the fire affected 26 inmates, nine of whom died and 17 others sustained burns of varying degrees, including four critical cases. These events occurred against the backdrop of tensions and protests in the region following the killing of young man Siban Hasso, amid popular demands for accountability for his death.

Reports indicate that some inmates set fire to mattresses and other items inside the prison, leading to the fire and the numerous injuries and deaths among the detainees. These developments come amid reports that a group of detainees refused to be transferred from the same prison to other prisons in Aleppo city, a move that coincided with the unrest at the prison.

Additionally, approximately 13 detainees arrested in connection with protests in the city last night were transferred to Aleppo province. It is worth noting that after the dissolution of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), the Ain al-Arab prison remains under the administration of its former staff and has not yet been handed over to the Syrian Ministry of Interior.
