Tunis: The first batch of released Tunisian activists from the Steadfastness Flotilla arrived at Tunis-Carthage International Airport on Sunday evening, after being deported from Israel on a Turkish plane.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, hundreds of Tunisians welcomed the activists with bouquets of flowers, banners, and pictures, creating a celebratory atmosphere for their return. The activists were part of a larger group that included 36 Turkish citizens and 137 nationals from several countries such as the United States, the UAE, Algeria, Morocco, Libya, Kuwait, Italy, Malaysia, Mauritania, Switzerland, and Jordan.
Last Wednesday, Israeli naval forces intercepted 42 ships from the Global Steadfastness Flotilla as they sailed in international waters towards Gaza. The ships aimed to break the siege imposed on Gaza, and hundreds of international activists on board were arrested during the operation.
