First International Oil and Gas Engineering Conference Commences in Basra with Global Participation


BASRA: The inaugural sessions of the “First International Oil and Gas Engineering Conference 2024” have begun in Basra Governorate, featuring contributions from Arab and international researchers. Organized by the College of Oil and Gas Engineering at Basra University for Oil and Gas, the conference, which operates under the theme “Diverse Energy Resources, a Power for the Renaissance of the Country,” will continue for two days.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Dr. Muhammad Halil Hafez Al-Kaabi, President of the University of Oil and Gas, delivered an address emphasizing the significance of scientific research in advancing the oil and gas sector. He acknowledged the contributions of supporting bodies and committees in making the conference a success and welcomed the researchers for their ongoing scientific endeavors.

Dr. Abbas Abdul Amir Jassim, Dean of the College of Oil and Gas Engineering, highlighted Basra’s significant resources and energy wealth, which are essential globally. He stated that th
ese resources require continuous appreciation and that forums like this conference are the best way to harness and discuss recent developments in the oil and gas sector. Dr. Jassim also noted that the college has produced eight graduating classes and supplied the oil sector with highly skilled young professionals.

Dr. Ammar Kazim Al-Baaj, head of the scientific committee, explained that the conference’s purpose is to present and exchange research experiences related to the oil and gas industry. The conference aims to contribute to solving industry problems and discussing recent scientific advancements. He praised the researchers for sharing their scientific insights at the event.

The conference featured a documentary on the College of Oil and Gas Engineering, created by the Department of Media and Government Communications at Basra University for Oil and Gas. Following the film, a scientific dialogue session titled “Oil and Gas: Projects, Investment and Development” commenced. It was presented by Marfa Al-A
sadi, Deputy Managing Director of Basra Gas Company, Adnan Al-Jaberi, Deputy Chairman of the Parliamentary Oil and Energy Committee, and Madi Abdul Razzaq Al-Maliki, Assistant Director of Basra Oil Company, moderated by Dr. Maysaa Nouri Shihab, head of the preparatory committee. Several specialists and researchers contributed to the session with scientific interventions.

On the sidelines of the conference’s opening, the supporting bodies, including Basra Gas Company, Basra Oil Company, and TAAM Company, were honored for their contributions to the conference’s success. The first day’s activities covered topics such as oil reservoirs, petroleum geology and exploration, corrosion in oil industries, and environmental pollution in oil industries.
