Rome: Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein affirmed Iraq's commitment to deepening its strategic partnership with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). A statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicated that Hussein met today, Friday, with the Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Qu Dongyu, at the organization's headquarters in Rome, Italy.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, during the meeting, they discussed prospects for joint cooperation between the Republic of Iraq and the FAO, particularly in the areas of food security, sustainable agricultural development, water resource management, and adaptation to the effects of climate change.

The Minister emphasized Iraq's commitment to deepening its strategic partnership with the FAO, praising its role in supporting Iraq's efforts to achieve sustainable agricultural development, especially in areas affected by climate change and environmental challenges.

For his part, the Director-General of the FAO emphasized the special importance Iraq holds for the organization, as one of its founding members in 1945. He noted that the FAO views Iraq as a pivotal partner in the region and expressed its commitment to continuing its support for Iraq and expanding cooperation programs to serve the Sustainable Development Goals and enhance food security.

At the conclusion of the meeting, according to the statement, both sides stressed the importance of continued coordination and cooperation in the coming period to achieve common interests.
