Baghdad: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Fuad Hussein engaged in discussions with his Croatian counterpart, Gordan Grlic Radman, focusing on strengthening bilateral relations and exploring opportunities for joint cooperation.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a statement indicating that the meeting centered on enhancing ties between the two countries and addressing issues of mutual interest, particularly in the trade, economic, and energy sectors. Fuad Hussein welcomed the Croatian delegation, highlighting the historical ties between Iraq and Croatia and the potential for collaboration across various vital sectors.

The Croatian Minister extended congratulations to Fuad Hussein on Iraq’s National Day, expressing Croatia’s intention to enhance cooperation in oil, gas, energy, and armaments. He acknowledged Iraq’s significant role in maintaining regional security and stability.

During a joint press conference, Fuad Hussein reaffirmed the strength of Iraqi-Croatian relations and noted discussions on developing ties with the European Union, leveraging Croatia’s membership, and engaging with NATO for joint security cooperation. The talks also covered the contribution of Croatian companies in Iraq, particularly in electricity, mine clearance, and small arms production, in coordination with relevant Iraqi ministries.

The meeting explored cooperation in agriculture, given Croatia’s advancements in this sector, alongside enhancing tourism and cultural exchanges. Discussions also included a draft law to exempt diplomatic passport holders from entry visas and a potential double taxation agreement.

Fuad Hussein highlighted Iraq’s initiatives in the associated gas sector and the possibility of collaboration with Croatian firms. The Croatian Minister expressed gratitude for the warm reception, underscoring the strong friendship and cultural affinity between the two nations. He extended an invitation for Fuad Hussein to visit Zagreb officially, stressing Croatia’s support for Iraq’s unity and sovereignty and its appreciation for Iraq’s positive role in Middle East stability.
