New york: Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Fuad Hussein announced the near completion of the electricity interconnection project between Iraq and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states, stressing the importance of advancing joint cooperation.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that Hussein met with GCC Secretary-General Jasem Mohammed Al-Budaiwi at Iraq's mission headquarters to the United Nations, on the sidelines of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly. The two sides discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations and expand prospects for joint action.

Hussein underscored the need to activate the memorandum of understanding signed between Iraq and the GCC and to resume the work of the joint committee, praising the progress made on the power interconnection project, which is nearing completion.

The meeting also touched on the latest regional and international developments. Hussein warned of the dangers posed by current tensions in the region, stressing that any military escalation could threaten its geographic and political stability. He called for dialogue and understanding as the best means to resolve disputes, emphasizing the importance of de-escalation and stability in serving the interests of the region's peoples.

On another note, the Foreign Minister reviewed Iraq's democratic path, highlighting ongoing preparations for the upcoming elections as a reflection of the country's commitment to democracy and the consolidation of state institutions.
