Baghdad: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Fuad Hussein welcomed the French Ambassador to Iraq, Patrick Durel, on Sunday to discuss enhancing bilateral relations and the anticipated visit of French President Emmanuel Macron to Baghdad.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the meeting focused on the current state of Iraq-France bilateral relations and explored avenues for further development across multiple sectors. A significant point of discussion was the planned visit of President Emmanuel Macron to Baghdad, which is expected to take place in the coming months.

The dialogue extended to regional and international matters, including the French-Saudi initiative and the outcomes of the recent conference in New York addressing the Palestinian issue. The preparations for the upcoming United Nations General Assembly meetings, scheduled for the end of September, were also on the agenda. Discussions particularly highlighted the French government’s stance on recognizing the Palestinian state
