Foreign Minister: Climate change and drought threaten Iraq, its agriculture and society

Foreign Minister Fuaod Hussein stressed that climate change and drought threaten Iraq, its agriculture and society.

The Foreign Minister said in a joint press conference with his Turkish counterpart that the two countries are exposed to climate changes and the fact that Iraq is a country of the two rivers and the sources of the Tigris and Euphrates in Turkey, water cooperation in this field and obtaining a fair share of water was our common talk.

The Foreign Minister stressed: We need permanent work through a joint permanent committee put forward by my Turkish counterpart.

He explained the security and military situation were part of the talks.

The Foreign Minister affirmed: We are committed to the Iraqi constitution, and no one is allowed to use Iraqi land to attack its neighbors.

The Foreign Minister indicated that he had discussed the Turkish military presence in Iraq with the Turkish Minister, explaining that there are about 700 thousand Iraqis living in Turkiey.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs affirmed: We discussed draft memorandums of understanding and the need to expedite their conclusion.
