Baghdad: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein engaged in a phone call with his Saudi counterpart, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, to discuss the latest developments in Syria, with a particular focus on the events in Aleppo.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs highlighted that the conversation between the two foreign ministers centered around the ongoing situation in the region, specifically the recent occurrences in the Syrian Arab Republic, especially in Aleppo. Both ministers emphasized the urgent need to halt the fighting and continue negotiations, particularly between the Syrian Interim Government and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

Minister Fuad Hussein expressed his concern over the attacks targeting civilian and residential areas in Aleppo, leading to the displacement of thousands of Kurdish citizens. He underscored the importance of collaborative efforts to stop these attacks and support Syria's security and stability, warning that the continuation of such events could have direct repercussions on Iraq.

The statement further noted that both sides agreed on the necessity of communicating with their counterparts in the Syrian Interim Government in Damascus to address the seriousness of these developments.

Beyond Syria, the conversation also touched upon the situation in Yemen. Minister Hussein stressed the importance of reducing tensions in a manner that benefits the Yemeni people.

Additionally, the call covered general regional tensions and threats, including the situation in the Islamic Republic of Iran, and assessed the regional landscape and its implications for Iraq and Saudi Arabia.

Toward the end of their discussion, the ministers also considered developments in Venezuela and their potential impact on global oil prices.
