Doha: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Fuad Hussein met on Sunday with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on the sidelines of the preparatory meeting of Foreign Ministers held in Doha.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the two sides discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations and common issues between the two countries, most notably the management of the water issue and water releases from the Turkish side. They also addressed the seriousness of the current situation in the region and Israeli policies that represent a clear threat to its security and stability.
The meeting further delved into the progress of talks between the Turkish government and the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), in addition to developments related to this issue. The situation in Syria was also discussed, with the two ministers emphasizing the importance of its stability and territorial integrity in light of the Israeli entity’s attempts to destabilize its security.
In another context, Fuad Hussein responded to the Turkish Foreign Minister’s inquiry about the upcoming elections in Iraq, stressing that they will take place on schedule, with preparations continuing apace to ensure their success and strengthen the country’s democratic process.
The meeting concluded with the two ministers reaffirming their condemnation of the Israeli attack on the Qatari capital, Doha, reiterating their support for the sisterly State of Qatar, its leadership, and its people.
