Foreign Minister Engages Turkish Delegation on Bilateral Ties and Water Concerns


Baghdad: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Fuad Hussein received a delegation from the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday, headed by Ambassador Ali Reza, Director General of the Iran and Iraq Department at the Ministry.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Ministry stated in a statement that during the meeting, the path of bilateral relations between Iraq and Turkey and ways to develop them to achieve the common interests of the two countries were reviewed. The water issue and its importance in enhancing joint cooperation and guaranteeing Iraq’s water rights were also discussed.



The Minister affirmed Iraq’s keenness to build balanced relations with Turkey based on mutual respect and constructive cooperation, which would contribute to achieving stability and development for both countries.



For his part, Ambassador Ali Reza expressed Ankara’s desire to strengthen cooperation with Baghdad in various fields, particularly in the areas of water and trade, to serve the aspirations of the two peoples and deepen the bonds of friendship between them.



The talks also addressed prospects for trade exchange between the two sides and the need to expand areas of economic cooperation, which would contribute to supporting sustainable development efforts and strengthening bilateral ties.
