Baghdad: The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fuad Hussein, received a copy of the credentials of the new Brazilian Ambassador to Iraq, Alfredo Cesar Martinho Leoni, on Monday. A statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs highlighted the focus on bilateral relations between Iraq and Brazil, tracing their history back to 1961 and examining the various stages they have undergone.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the meeting emphasized the importance of joint efforts to elevate the relationship between the two nations to broader levels. The Foreign Minister commended the Brazilian Embassy in Baghdad for its role in strengthening these ties and maintaining operations over the past years, underscoring the importance of its continued work in fostering cooperation.

The discussions also highlighted the significance of exchanging visits between Iraq and Brazil, along with expanding economic cooperation in current sectors and exploring new opportunities for collaboration across both public and private domains. The Minister praised the diplomatic understanding and positive relations, noting agreement on several issues of common interest. He affirmed Iraq’s aspiration to maintain coordination and cooperation with Brazil.

The Minister assured the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ readiness to provide necessary support to the new Brazilian Ambassador, contributing to the success of his mission and the development of relations between the two friendly countries.
