Baghdad: The Foreign Minister told his Iranian counterpart: We hope to reach understandings to reopen the Strait of Hormuz as soon as possible. Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein discussed with his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araqchi, the developments in the Strait of Hormuz and prospects for regional de-escalation.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a press release: "Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, in a telephone call with the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Abbas Araqchi, expressed Iraq's welcome of a return to dialogue and diplomacy as the best way to address differences and resolve outstanding issues, thus contributing to strengthening security and stability in the region."

The call also addressed the recent military attacks targeting Iraq, and the importance of avoiding any steps that could increase tensions in the region was emphasized.
