Baghdad: The four presidencies convened a significant meeting at Baghdad Palace, attended by Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, Speaker of Parliament Mahmoud al-Mashhadani, and President of the Supreme Judicial Council Faiq Zidan. The discussions focused on the country’s current developments and preparations for the forthcoming elections.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the meeting reviewed proposals sent by the President, aiming to create a safe and stable electoral environment characterized by transparency and integrity. These proposals seek to ensure equal opportunities for all electoral competitors.

The attendees also addressed issues arising from recent sessions of the House of Representatives, stressing the importance of resolving these in accordance with legal procedures. They emphasized the need to follow up on various draft laws presented to the Council, ensuring the protection of citizens’ rights.

The Supreme Judicial Council’s mandate to implement electoral legislation was also a topic of discussion. This mandate aims to strengthen the rule of law, uphold democratic processes, and reinforce principles of integrity and transparency, thereby boosting citizens’ confidence in constitutional institutions and their public service roles.

Additionally, the meeting covered the implementation of the General Amnesty Law, discussing the number of inmates affected, the management of their affairs, and the committees involved in their reinvestigation, prosecution, and release. The need to facilitate the law’s implementation and address obstacles hindering its execution was emphasized.
