Baghdad: The four presidencies have underscored the critical importance of restricting weapons exclusively to state control as a fundamental step in consolidating state authority and upholding the rule of law. This affirmation came during a meeting attended by Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi, President Nizar Amidi, Speaker of Parliament Hebat Hamad al-Halbousi, and President of the Supreme Judicial Council Faiq Zaidan, where they discussed the country’s general situation and reviewed regional developments.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Prime Minister’s Media Office released a statement noting that the presidencies expressed their support for the government’s efforts to implement its ministerial program. These efforts are aimed at addressing citizens’ needs, improving living conditions and public services, enhancing national security and stability, and boosting the performance of state institutions.
The meeting participants also explored strategies to strengthen the country’s economic condition amid challenges such as declining revenues due to regional conflicts and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. They highlighted the necessity of diversifying national income sources, increasing non-oil revenues, and improving financial management to fortify the Iraqi economy against crises.
The statement reiterated the commitment to the principle of the state’s monopoly on force, particularly following the withdrawal of international coalition forces from Iraq. The presidencies emphasized the development of the Iraqi armed forces’ capabilities to ensure national protection and citizen security.
Efforts to combat administrative and financial corruption were also discussed, with a focus on protecting public funds and legally pursuing those involved in corruption. The meeting addressed the government’s proposed draft law for recovering funds, stressing the importance of proceeding with necessary procedures to reclaim public money and strengthen the anti-corruption framework.
Enhancing the legislative and oversight role of the Council of Representatives was a key topic, with a call to expedite the passage of priority draft laws that directly impact citizens’ living and service needs. The presidencies agreed on the necessity of continued cooperation among state institutions to finalize the cabinet formation, thereby enabling comprehensive government performance and facilitating the implementation of its executive program.
Regarding regional developments, the participants stressed the importance of resolving regional crises peacefully, supporting dialogue and diplomacy, and rejecting any form of aggression from Iraqi territory. They reaffirmed Iraq’s stance against using its land for conflicts, aiming to preserve the country’s sovereignty, security, and stability while shielding its people from the repercussions of surrounding crises.
