Fuad Hussein Discusses Strengthening Bilateral Relations and Achieving Regional Stability with Iranian Foreign Minister


Tehran: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein met today with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi during his visit to Tehran to discuss strengthening bilateral relations and achieving regional stability.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicated that Fuad Hussein held a bilateral meeting with his Iranian counterpart, during which they discussed bilateral relations between the two neighboring countries and ways to enhance them, as well as regional conditions and recent developments in the region.



Following the meeting, the two sides held a press conference, during which Fuad Hussein confirmed that the meeting addressed the situation in Iraq. He noted that the country has entered the stage of forming the Iraqi government and stressed the need to expedite its formation in order to address existing challenges, both regional and internal, related to economic and financial issues.



The Minister explained that he has an intensive program in Tehran today and tomorrow, which includes holding numerous meetings with several officials in the Islamic Republic of Iran. Fuad Hussein emphasized that his visit to Tehran is based on the strong and robust relations that bind the two countries in various fields, particularly in the economic, cultural, and other areas of joint cooperation.



He noted that the importance of continued communication and coordination between Iraq and Iran was underscored, and mechanisms for addressing current developments in the region were discussed.



For his part, the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran affirmed his country’s support for Baghdad’s diplomatic role in the region and welcomed Iraq’s constructive and growing role in regional diplomacy. He announced Iran’s readiness to cooperate in confronting challenges and strengthening regional dialogue in this regard.



He indicated that an agreement was reached to advance diplomatic initiatives aimed at achieving regional stability, reaching a shared understanding of security challenges, and working diligently towards developing a comprehensive strategic cooperation agreement. The Iranian Minister also stressed his country’s desire for a strong and independent Iraq, affirming Iran’s belief in Iraq’s ability to play a pivotal role in achieving peace and stability at both the regional and international levels.
