Mosul: Queues of vehicles at gas stations in Mosul have entered their third month, amid growing complaints from citizens, some of whom are forced to wait for hours to obtain fuel. Meanwhile, the Oil Products Distribution Company denies any shortage of gasoline. According to National Iraqi News Agency, a source at the company stated that “supply operations are ongoing and there is no shortage of gasoline.” The source explained that part of the current congestion is due to the increased number of vehicles coming from the Kurdistan Region, as well as residents of the region who are heading to Mosul’s gas stations to refuel.

The source added that “this influx directly impacts some stations, especially those located in areas with high traffic density,” noting that “the supply operations are being monitored and efforts are underway to organize the distribution process to ensure that fuel reaches citizens.”

At the Yarmouk gas station, citizen Salem Al-Waddah expressed that “waiting has become part of my day,” explaining that he is forced to stand in line for a long time before obtaining fuel, which disrupts people’s lives and increases transportation costs. Citizen Ayham Omar stated, “The problem is no longer limited to the availability of gasoline, but also includes the time wasted by citizens waiting in line at gas stations.” He called for addressing the causes of the congestion and improving the flow of vehicles entering and exiting the station.

At the Al-Asaad station in the right bank of Mosul, citizen Umm Saad, who waited for hours in the long queues, said, “The lines of vehicles have become a daily occurrence.” She pointed out that waiting for hours to obtain fuel exacerbates the suffering of families, especially employees and business owners whose income depends on daily commuting.

Citizens are urging the relevant authorities to find practical solutions to the congestion by organizing vehicle traffic and distributing fuel more efficiently, while also tightening oversight of gas stations and investigating the reasons for the continued queues to reduce waiting times for residents.
