Basra: Basra police have successfully apprehended a gang involved in the theft of women’s handbags in the Ma’qal district.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Basra Governorate Police Command issued a press release stating that the arrest followed the circulation of videos on social media showing the thefts in the Ma’qal area. In response, Basra Governorate Police Chief, Major General Latif Abdul-Ridha Al-Saad, ordered the formation of a task force from the Ma’qal Anti-Crime Division, leading to the arrest of three suspects.
The press release further detailed that the authorities seized motorcycles used in the thefts, along with stolen women’s handbags and mobile phones. Additionally, a pistol was discovered in the gang’s possession. The suspects have been detained under Article (446) of the Penal Code.
