Baghdad: The Ministry of Electricity announced that the halt in gas supplies from the Dana field could lead to a loss of 1400 megawatts. Ministry spokesperson Ahmed Turki Jiyad stated they received notification from relevant authorities regarding the cessation of gas supplies from the Dana field in the Kurdistan Region due to the security situation in the area. This could result in a loss of approximately 1400 megawatts of generating capacity for the national electricity grid if the supply disruption continues.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Ministry confirmed that it has initiated all necessary technical and operational measures and prepared an emergency plan to manage the electricity grid. This plan includes load redistribution and the utilization of all available generating units to mitigate the impact of the anticipated production shortfall and maintain the stability of the electricity system.
The statement continued: "The Ministry is coordinating with relevant authorities to monitor developments and ensure the return of generating units to their normal operating capacity."
The Ministry of Electricity called on citizens to cooperate in conserving electricity during this period and affirmed that it will keep the public informed of any updates through its official media platforms.
