Gaza: Baby Born Without a Brain Amid Rising Cases of Fetal Malformations

Gaza: Al-Awda Hospital in northern Gaza witnessed the birth of a baby without a brain, amid a significant increase in the phenomenon of fetal malformations in the Strip due to the ongoing Israeli war for about a year and a half.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, "Malak Ahmed Al-Qanou' was born without a brain at Al-Awda Hospital in northern Gaza, in one of the "shocking cases of fetal deformities in the womb due to radiation from the bombing of weapons that Israel, the occupying power, is testing in the Gaza Strip against civilians and children."

Videos and photos documenting the baby's condition showed her with a brainless head, with the skull extending only above the eyes.

Medical sources called for an international investigation "into the causes of these recurring cases of fetal deformities and the nature of the weapons used."

On January 28, a Human Rights Watch report stated that Israel imposes conditions that threaten pregnancy, childbirth, and the lives of newborns in Gaza.

In its report, the human rights organization highlighted Israel's deliberate targeting of the health sector, which has undermined pregnant women and newborns' access to necessary healthcare.
