Baghdad: The General Authority of Customs announced today its success in recovering a huge sum of five billion Iraqi dinars in customs duty differences owed by a number of companies. The amount was duly deposited in the state treasury.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Director General of the General Authority of Customs, Dr. Thamer Qasim Dawood, confirmed in a statement that this step comes as part of a series of strict measures implemented by the Authority to protect public funds and ensure the collection of all financial dues owed by companies, thus enhancing state resources and preventing any attempts to manipulate or evade duties.

He added that the General Authority of Customs continues its field and oversight work, based on the Prime Minister's directives, with the aim of enhancing integrity and transparency in customs transactions. He noted that the recovery of this amount represents a new achievement for the Authority's staff, who are redoubling their efforts to monitor and hold violators accountable.

The Director General emphasized that the Authority will not hesitate to pursue anyone who attempts to harm the national economy, emphasizing that all files related to fee differences and companies' financial obligations are under continuous scrutiny, ensuring the full recovery of the state's rights.

He continued that the Authority, in coordination with regulatory and financial authorities, is proceeding with its plans to increase revenues and promote financial reform, in line with the government's priorities of achieving economic stability and supporting the state's general budget through efficient and corruption-proof customs outlets.
