Baghdad: The General Federation of Trade Unions has announced a significant development concerning health insurance for retired workers. A delegation from the General Syndicate of Retired Workers, led by Salem Rakea Ali, along with Abbas Kadhim, engaged in discussions with the Health Insurance Department at the Ministry of Health. Representatives from the Retirement and Social Security Department were also in attendance, including Haider Kadhim, Director of Insured Persons Affairs; Hawraa Abdul Rahim, Director of Pension Payments; and Ali Halim, Head of the Electronic Database.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, an agreement was reached during the meeting to extend health insurance coverage to retired workers. The new arrangement stipulates that 1% of the retiree’s pension will be deducted monthly, with a full year’s salary to be paid in advance. Retirees will submit their applications for coverage through the Retirement and Social Security Department upon making a formal request. The insurance policy will also extend to cover the family members of the retirees.

Star Danbous Barak commended the collaborative efforts of the General Union of Retired Workers, the Retirement and Social Security Department, and the Health Insurance Department. He noted that this achievement marks a crucial step in providing healthcare to retired workers and their families. Additionally, Barak highlighted that this initiative reflects the General Federation’s dedication to addressing the issues faced by retirees and advocating for their rights, thereby ensuring justice and equality with public sector employees.
