German Foreign Minister’s Official Visit to Turkey Set to Strengthen Bilateral Ties


Ankara: German Foreign Minister Johann Vadephul will pay an official visit to Turkey tomorrow, Friday, where he is scheduled to hold talks with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on strengthening bilateral relations and a number of regional and international issues.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, the two sides are expected to emphasize the importance of continuing the high-level consultation and dialogue mechanisms between Turkey and Germany and express their satisfaction with the development of bilateral economic and trade relations.



The meeting is scheduled to address preparations for the upcoming meeting of the Turkish-German Joint Economic and Trade Commission (JETCO) and the Energy and Mining Forum, which are expected to contribute to injecting new momentum into economic and trade relations between the two countries.



The Turkish Foreign Minister will also emphasize Ankara’s determination to develop energy cooperation with Berlin within a strategic approach, in addition to exchanging views on Turkish-European relations, emphasizing the need to implement European security strategies within a framework of close coordination under the umbrella of NATO.



The two ministers will also discuss ways to expand cooperation in the defense industry and the potential for cooperation within the European Union’s SAFE mechanism.



According to the same sources, Fidan will emphasize Turkey’s interest in the well-being and peace of the Turkish community residing in Germany. He will also present Ankara’s positions on regional and international issues, most notably Ukraine, Syria, and Middle East issues.



Regarding the Gaza file, Turkey will reiterate its close monitoring of all stages of the ceasefire agreement and its expectation of its full implementation, stressing that the positive momentum resulting from the ceasefire must serve a just and lasting solution to the Palestinian issue and the importance of delivering humanitarian aid to Gaza quickly and without interruption.



Turkey and Germany are linked by multidimensional relations, spanning the political, economic, military, and humanitarian fields, and coordination and cooperation between the two countries have become increasingly important in light of regional and international developments, including European security.



Germany is one of Turkey’s largest trading partners, with trade exchange between the two countries reaching approximately $47.5 billion in 2024.
