New york: UN Secretary-General Ant³nio Guterres said that the chances of a quick end to the Ukrainian conflict are slim despite the meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin. Guterres told reporters in New York: "I am not optimistic about making progress in the short term in the peace process in Ukraine."

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Guterres explained that the positions of Kyiv and Moscow remain largely opposed, expressing concerns that the conflict may continue for a while longer. President Trump stated that he would need to personally engage in negotiations to resolve the conflict, citing the "very high level of hostility between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky."

Trump elaborated to reporters that he might need to conduct a trilateral summit to facilitate dialogue between the two leaders. He noted the significant animosity between Putin and Zelensky, which he believes hinders their ability to communicate effectively.

The meeting between Trump and Putin took place in Alaska on August 15, followed by discussions with Zelensky and several European leaders in Washington on August 18.
