Baghdad: The head of the Border Ports Authority, Lieutenant General Omar al-Waeli, confirmed on Saturday that the measures taken to regulate operations and enhance readiness at border crossings with Iran are temporary.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, al-Waeli clarified in a statement that the measures implemented at several border crossings with Iran are intended for organizational and developmental purposes. These steps aim to reorganize operations, raise preparedness, and improve inspection and control mechanisms to ensure the smooth flow of passengers and goods, adhering to established procedures.

He emphasized that traffic with Iran remains uninterrupted and continues to operate 24 hours a day at the Zurbatiyah and Al-Mundhiriya crossings, facilitating the smooth flow of passengers and trade.

Al-Waeli added that border crossings are currently undergoing periodic reviews of their operational status and organizational and technical needs. This process is in coordination with all relevant departments and agencies, aiming to strengthen border security while maintaining the smooth flow of trade and movement of citizens.

He indicated that the Border Ports Authority is working to complete regulatory and qualification requirements at other ports. This is in preparation for resuming operations once the necessary procedures are finalized, achieving the highest levels of organization, control, and efficiency.
