Mosul: Head of the mass graves excavation team in Iraq, Ahmed Al-Asadi, confirmed that the first phase of exhuming the Khasfa cemetery south of Mosul was limited to collecting evidence from the surface and took only 15 days.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Asadi stated that the actual and full exhumation of the site requires international support and official approvals from the relevant authorities, due to the sensitivity of the site and its technical and legal complexities.

He highlighted that the site contains one of the largest mass graves in Iraq and bears witness to the crimes committed against civilians during ISIS’s control.
