Baghdad: The head of the Central Organization for Standardization and Quality Control, Fayyad Muhammad Abdul-Dulaimi, led an extensive inspection tour on Tuesday across various food markets and gold shops in Baghdad. The purpose of the tour was to evaluate their adherence to established legal regulations and standards.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Ministry of Planning revealed in a press release that the tour included the Assistant Director General of the Standardization Department, Mustafa Saad Khazal, and a specialized technical committee from the Central Organization. This initiative was carried out in collaboration with the Directorate for Combating Organized Crime at the Ministry of Interior, the National Security Service, the local security forces, and health and commercial inspection teams.

The statement detailed that the inspection involved field visits to goldsmith shops and workshops to ensure compliance with regulations on the marking and circulation of gold jewelry. Additionally, the quality of food products and consumer goods in the markets was scrutinized to verify their conformity to approved standard specifications, aiming to protect public health and consumer rights.

The statement further noted that the tour emphasized the importance of enhancing market discipline and improving coordination between regulatory and security agencies to reduce violations and foster transparency in commercial transactions.

The head of the agency affirmed that “the tour is part of the agency’s ongoing monitoring program, aimed at protecting consumer rights and supporting the local business environment,” and emphasized “the continuation of monitoring campaigns and holding violators accountable in accordance with applicable regulations and laws.”
