Baghdad: Head of the Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee, Karim Aliwi Al-Muhammadawi, emphasized that “Russia is a major supporter of Iraq,” highlighting that the relationship between the two nations extends beyond political support to include security cooperation and armament.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, a statement from Al-Muhammadawi’s office revealed that during a meeting with the Russian Ambassador to Iraq, Elbrus Kotrashev, Al-Muhammadawi described the Iraqi-Russian relations as both historical and profound. He noted that these relations are not confined to one specific area but encompass intelligence, security, and economic cooperation, forming a crucial and significant partnership.

Al-Muhammadawi further stated that Russia, as a major country, plays an important role in the region. The meeting with the Russian Ambassador also discussed the situation in the region and the Middle East more broadly, emphasizing Iraq’s pivotal role in achieving regional balance.
