Baghdad Head of the Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee, Muhammad Rida Al Haider, considered the presence of Turkish forces inside Iraqi territory an occupation that must be ended.

Al Haider said in a televised statement: “What is happening within the borders of the Kurdistan region represents a dangerous escalation by the Turkish army and the Kurdistan Workers’ Party.

He added that the Iraqi constitution does not allow the presence of refugees and they have an armed wing on Iraqi soil.”

He categorically denied the existence of any agreement with Turkey, but only temporary and conditional understandings, stressing that it should not take advantage of Iraq’s current situation.

He said that the central government and the leadership of the Peshmerga should coordinate about what is happening from the Turkish occupation

Al Haidar indicated that there is no intelligence cooperation between Iraq and Turkey regarding the pursuit of PKK fighters, adding that “the Turkish government must stop fighting and give way to the Iraqi government’s efforts to find solutions.”
