Baghdad: The Head of the Supreme Judicial Council, Judge Faiq Zidan, met with Moayad Al-Lami, President of the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate, on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at the Council’s headquarters in Baghdad. The meeting focused on key issues surrounding media professionalism and the protection of freedom of expression.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Judge Zidan and Al-Lami highlighted the necessity of reinforcing the professionalism of free media. They expressed concerns about the misuse of media platforms for defamation or spreading false information, which could have adverse effects on state institutions and society. Both leaders agreed on the critical role of the media in upholding democratic values and the importance of preventing the dissemination of misinformation.

The discussion underscored the importance of respecting freedom of expression, as enshrined in Article 38 of the Iraqi Constitution. They emphasized the constructive role that media can play in fostering trust between citizens and state institutions. By ensuring media professionalism and safeguarding freedom of expression, they aim to strengthen democratic processes and promote a healthier public discourse.
