Health Minister Announces Expansion of Insurance Program to Three Governorates

Baghdad: Health Minister Abdul Hussein al-Moussawi announced the launch of the health insurance system in Najaf, Karbala, and Basra as part of the ministry’s plan to expand health insurance services across Iraq’s provinces.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the minister emphasized the ministry’s commitment to ensuring comprehensive health coverage for Iraqi citizens. The expansion aligns with the government program under Prime Minister Ali al-Zubaidi, which aims to include nine provinces in the health insurance initiative: Basra, Dhi Qar, Maysan, Najaf, Karbala, Babylon, Anbar, Nineveh, and Kirkuk.

During a press conference, al-Moussawi elaborated on the recent developments, stating that the health insurance system has been launched in the three provinces after completing inclusion procedures, contracting with service providers, and activating a comprehensive electronic system. He highlighted the distribution of health insurance cards to eligible beneficiaries and mentioned that the system would soon be launched in Nineveh, Anbar, and Dhi Qar after finalizing implementation procedures.

The minister also noted that the system would be gradually introduced in the remaining governorates following the completion of their infrastructure. He reiterated the ministry’s dedication to providing quality medical services under the Health Insurance Law, which seeks to reduce financial burdens on Iraqi citizens and alleviate poverty.
