Basra: The Ministry of Health announced 114 injuries and two deaths due to an ammonia gas leak at a fertilizer plant in Basra Governorate.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Ministry of Health spokesman Saif al-Badr said in a statement: “All cases received first aid and medical treatment after the Ministry dispatched more than 50 ambulances to the scene of the accident.”
He added: “Most of the injuries were minor, and only 21 injured people remain hospitalized: 12 at al-Zubair Hospital, two at al-Sayyab Hospital, and seven at the Kuwaiti Hospital.” An ammonia gas leak occurred at the Southern Fertilizer Plant in the Khor al-Zubair area of Basra yesterday, Sunday, leading to numerous cases of suffocation among the plant’s workers.
