Baghdad:The Director of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Abdul Amir Al-Shammari, led a security meeting focused on finalizing the transition of internal security responsibilities within cities to the Ministry of Interior.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the meeting included participation from various security commanders and officials, with commanders from operations, police, and security agencies in the governorates of Holy Karbala, Basra, and Maysan joining via closed-circuit television.

The discussions centered on reviewing field plans and implementation mechanisms necessary to complete the handover process. The participants also assessed the readiness of units to ensure a seamless transition and effective management of security within provincial centers and cities.

The Security Media Cell highlighted that this initiative aims to enhance internal stability by assigning the primary role in maintaining security and protecting public and private property to agencies under the Ministry of Interior.

This meeting is part of broader governmental directives and strategic plans to redistribute responsibilities between security and military agencies. Under this new arrangement, the Ministry of Interior will handle the internal security portfolio, while the Ministry of Defense will focus on protecting national borders and securing strategic targets.
