Baghdad: The Council of Representatives affirmed: “The ruling issued against MP Alia Nassif does not require the lifting of immunity and does not affect her membership or her right to run for elections.”
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Council clarified in a statement that the Rusafa Misdemeanor Court had imposed a fine on MP Alia Nassif Jassim in relation to a misdemeanor case involving publishing. The Council emphasized that this ruling does not necessitate the lifting of parliamentary immunity, as it aligns with constitutional and legal provisions.
The Council further explained that the ruling does not meet the criteria of those that could impact membership, which would require a penalty involving deprivation of liberty that extends throughout the remaining period of the electoral session.
