Basra: Human rights groups in Basra are urging the government to respond to the killing of an Iraqi fisherman detained in Kuwait. The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Basra has called for governmental measures concerning the death of one of the five Iraqi fishermen held by Kuwaiti authorities.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the office stated its commitment to following up on the case involving the fishermen, who were reportedly assaulted by the Kuwaiti coast guard while in Iraqi territorial waters several days ago. The office noted that the fishermen have not yet been released.

The statement revealed that fisherman Najm Abdullah Khalid died, and another fisherman was injured during the incident. It emphasized the importance of adhering to international law provisions and urged efforts to stop such violations and prevent them from happening again.

In a related development, Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein announced from Kuwait that Kuwaiti authorities had agreed to release the Iraqi fishermen detained by the Kuwaiti coast guard last week.
