Baghdad: The Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) confirmed its adherence to the existing House of Representatives Elections Law, emphasizing its ongoing operations under the Third Amendment to Law No. 12 of 2018.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the commission’s assistant spokesperson, Nibras Abu Souda, highlighted that all commission activities are aligned with the current legal framework. She noted that any amendments to the law would necessitate a series of procedural steps, including ratification by the Presidency of the Republic and publication in the Official Gazette, processes that require considerable time.

Abu Souda detailed the commission’s preparations, mentioning the establishment of a comprehensive virtual schedule of activities leading up to Election Day. This schedule aligns with the constitutional timeline, demonstrating the commission’s proactive approach by updating the voter registry ahead of schedule.

The assistant spokesperson further disclosed that approximately one million new voters born in 2007 are eligible for registration. These individuals can register at any of the 1,079 centers distributed across Iraq’s governorates. The commission has urged new voters and those who wish to update their data to utilize these centers, ensuring they are ready for the upcoming elections.
