Baghdad: The Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) participated in monitoring the Russian parliamentary elections as an international observer.

According to Iraqi News Agency, a delegation from the Independent High Electoral Commission, led by Omar Ahmed Mohammed, Chairman of the Board of Commissioners, and including Hussein Abdul-Sada Bahir, Chairman of the Electoral Administration, and Abbas Farhan, member of the Board of Commissioners, took part as international observers in supervising the parliamentary elections for the State Duma in the Russian Federation from September 18 to 20.

The commission stated that the delegation’s involvement was a response to an invitation from the Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation. This participation is part of efforts to enhance cooperation and share expertise in electoral fields, as well as to gain insights into international experiences in managing and organizing electoral processes. The delegation is also attending the International Forum titled ‘Elections in Times of Crisis,’ which addresses various issues and challenges associated with conducting and managing elections under exceptional circumstances and different changes.

As part of their visit, the delegation conducted a field tour that included several polling stations to observe the electoral process and monitor the organizational and technical procedures implemented inside polling stations. They also aimed to understand the mechanisms for managing the voting process.

This participation is part of the Independent High Electoral Commission’s efforts to engage with international electoral experiences and exchange expertise and practices in the field of electoral process management.
