IHEC: The Date of the Legislative Elections Will Not Exceed November 25

Baghdad: The Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) has disclosed the procedure for scheduling the forthcoming legislative elections, ensuring that the election date will be announced 45 days prior to the conclusion of the current parliamentary term, in line with the amended Electoral Law No. 12 of 2018.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Commission's official spokesperson, Jumana Al-Ghalay, shared in an audio recording that the Prime Minister, in collaboration with the Independent High Electoral Commission, is responsible for setting the election date. This date must be at least 45 days before the current parliamentary session ends, which began with the first session on September 1, 2022.

She further explained that this 45-day period is the minimum timeframe within which elections can occur. Consequently, the elections cannot be held any later than November 25, 2025. The final election date will be determined jointly by the Prime Minister and the Independent High Electoral Commission.
