Imam of Friday Prayers in Najaf Describes Election of Speaker as a “Blessed Step”.


Najaf: Imam and Friday preacher in Najaf, Sadr al-Din al-Qabanji, referred to the recent election of the Speaker of the House of Representatives as a “blessed step” during his political sermon at Friday prayers. Al-Qabanji urged the newly elected Speaker to address and pass the stalled legislation, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a unified voice among all components of the government. He also called for cooperation with judicial and executive authorities and advocated for an amendment to the Personal Status Law.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, al-Qabanji expressed his concerns about the Iraqi airspace being violated by Israeli aircraft and urged the Iraqi government to hold those responsible accountable. On regional matters, al-Qabanji highlighted issues in Lebanese and Palestinian affairs, criticizing the prevention of the International Relief Agency from aiding Palestinians, labeling it a “violation of international law.” He called on organizations like Hamas and Hezbollah to show resili
ence and patience.

Al-Qabanji also stipulated conditions for a ceasefire, demanding that Israel and America should finance the reconstruction of Gaza and Lebanon, compensate the 45,000 martyrs from these regions, and release all Palestinian prisoners. Additionally, he extended his congratulations to the Lebanese people and Hezbollah on the election of Sheikh Naim Qassem.
