Independent MPs: These are our observations on amending the Provincial Councils Law

Baghdad / NINA / – Independent MPs and representatives of emerging political blocs announced a list of observations regarding a proposal to amend the provincial and district councils law, which is included for second reading in the parliament session held today, Saturday.

MP, Hussein Al-Sabri read in a joint press conference today, Saturday, the observations and vision of representatives of the emerging and independent blocs from the opposition forces and some MPs, on the proposal to amend the Law of Provincial and District Councils No 12, for the year 2018, which includes “the adoption of the single nomination mechanism, calculate the votes in accordance with the system of the first winner with the highest votes, and cancel the method of counting seats in the modified system of Saint Lego, by amending article 12 of the original law and amended by article 9 of the Law No. 14 of 2019.

He added, “The observations included dividing the governorate into multiple constituencies according to the number of women’s quota seats, and canceling the previous text that considered the governorate as one constituency, by amending Article 23 first of Original Law No. 12 of 2018.”

He went on to say, “Detailed notes will be submitted later and according to the vision of the signatory MPs, as a signed request was submitted to more than 50 MPs after we entered the session for the purpose of voting to remove the paragraph related to the election law from the agenda, but this vote did not obtain the full majority and the paragraph was not removed from the agenda.”/ End
