Baghdad: The Iraqi National Security Service (INSS) announced the destruction of the largest smuggling network in Baghdad. The INSS stated in a statement that its units were able to dismantle an organized criminal network specializing in the smuggling of cigarettes and alcoholic beverages, based on accurate intelligence information, extensive field monitoring, and after obtaining judicial approvals.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the operation resulted in the arrest of nine suspects who constituted the backbone of the criminal network. Investigations revealed that the network was using forged official documents to conceal the smuggled goods, with varying weights and numbers that did not match those stated on the official receipts.

The INSS continued: The operation also revealed the existence of two main warehouses used as distribution centers, the first for smuggled cigarettes, and the second for alcoholic beverages. The warehouses contained large quantities of smuggled boxes.

It indicated that all suspects were referred to the judiciary, while the seized smuggled goods were handed over to the General Customs Authority for further action.
