Baghdad: The Iraqi National Security Service (INSS) has confirmed its ongoing surveillance of social media content that is believed to incite strife, sectarian and political tensions, and distort or falsify facts.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the INSS emphasized that freedom of expression must adhere to legal standards and should not compromise national security or core national values. The agency stated that any inflammatory speech or content threatening societal peace or the unity of Iraq and its people would be addressed in accordance with existing laws and in collaboration with judicial authorities.

The INSS urged citizens and media outlets to act with national responsibility by ensuring accuracy in the dissemination of information and avoiding the spread of hatred, fear, division, or skepticism towards state institutions. The agency reaffirmed its constitutional duty to take legal measures against those who threaten societal peace or disrupt public order.
