Najaf: The Federal Integrity Commission announced on Sunday the arrest of four individuals accused of embezzlement and bribery at a government bank and a municipal department.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the arrests were made following investigations by the Najaf Investigation Office, which revealed that employees at the National Pension Authority branch and Al-Rasheed Bank had embezzled the pension of a deceased retiree for several years. Two female bank employees were immediately detained, with arrest warrants issued for two additional female employees.

In a separate incident, two legal employees from the Najaf Municipality Directorate were apprehended for soliciting a bribe. They were caught receiving the first installment of the bribe, related to a promise to dismiss a criminal case involving a forged document. The document in question was issued by the Najaf Municipality and pertained to land ownership, as detailed in Resolution (20 of 2025).

The judge of the Najaf Investigation Court, who specializes in integrity cases, has ordered the detention of all accused individuals under Articles (315 and 307) of the Penal Code. This detention is to ensure the completion of investigative procedures in both cases.
