Baghdad: The Federal Integrity Commission announced the arrest of an official in the accounts department of the Diyala Governorate office who caused damage to the funds and interests of the entity she works for.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, in a statement, the Commission said that “the team formed in the Diyala Investigation Office arrested a department head in the governorate office for handing over the letter of guarantee for the Baquba city street maintenance and paving project to the authorized manager of the implementing company, despite the project not being handed over and the presence of irregularities. She claimed that she did so because she believed it was no longer needed and that she mistakenly thought the project had been fully handed over.”

The Commission added that its team went to the project site and observed cracks, sinkholes, and serious damage to one of the completed streets. Despite the fact that only a few months have passed since its paving as part of a project awarded to a local company for 1,261,600,000 Iraqi dinars, the project has not yet been officially handed over due to unrepaired damage. A maintenance committee was formed and prepared an estimated assessment of the damage, but this assessment was later canceled due to the company’s lack of proper documentation.

A report was filed and presented, along with the accused, to the judge of the Integrity Investigation Court in Baquba, who ordered an investigation based on Article 341 of the Penal Code.
