Diwaniyah: The Integrity Commission has announced the arrest of two officials from the Ministry of Electricity in Diwaniyah for allegedly paying bribes to secure government positions.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Federal Integrity Commission revealed on Tuesday that the officials were apprehended as part of an investigation into corrupt practices within the ministry. A dedicated team from the Investigation and Arrest Division at the commission’s Diwaniyah Investigation Office executed the operation, targeting the electricity distribution directorate in the province.

The commission’s press release detailed that both the director of the department and his deputy were implicated in the bribery scheme, which aimed to facilitate the assignment of positions to certain individuals. The operation was conducted under a judicial warrant in accordance with Article (307) of the Penal Code.

An arrest report was meticulously prepared following the operation, which included presenting the accused before the competent investigating judge. The legal proceedings are set to determine the appropriate measures and eventual fate of the detained officials.
