Nineveh: The Federal Integrity Commission announced the execution of an arrest warrant against a brigadier general serving as the director of a police directorate in Nineveh, on charges of bribery in exchange for manipulating the statement of a detained suspect.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Commission’s Nineveh Investigation Directorate apprehended an intermediary in the act of receiving a bribe of $15,000, which was intended for the aforementioned officer. The officer was a member of the investigative committee formed to look into one of the detained suspects. It was revealed that the bribe was demanded in exchange for altering the suspect’s statement and changing the date of the crime to include him under the provisions of the general amnesty law.

The commission explained that the operations to apprehend the intermediary and execute the arrest warrant against the officer were carried out in coordination with the Directorate of Intelligence and Counterterrorism along with the Nineveh Police Command. A formal arrest report was prepared, and the suspects were presented to the competent investigating judge, who ordered their detention in accordance with the provisions of Resolution (160 of 1983).
