The federal integrity commission announced the issuance of an in absentia sentence of seven years imprisonment against the former governor of salah al-din for the crime of illicit enrichment.:in for the crime of illicit enrichment.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Commission indicated that the Central Anti-Corruption Criminal Court issued an in absentia ruling imposing a seven-year prison sentence on the convicted individual, Ammar Jabr Khalil Abdul Hamid, the former governor of Salah al-Din, based on the provisions of Article (19/Second and in conjunction with Article 16/First) of the Integrity and Illicit Enrichment Law No. (30 of 2011), as amended. The statement clarified that the ruling included a fine of 1,728,074,000 dinars, which is the equivalent of the illicit gains in his assets.
The Commission further noted that the ruling included obligating the convicted person to return the value of the illicit gains, amounting to 1,728,074,000 dinars, in accordance with the provisions of Article (19/Fourth) of the Integrity Commission Law. This article also stipulates that the convicted person shall not be released upon arrest and completion of their sentence until the value of the illicit gains is returned and a fine equivalent to that value is paid. Additionally, the court upheld the seizure of both movable and immovable assets of the convicted person and his wife, and placed a precautionary seizure on the movable and immovable assets of the convicted person’s son.
The Commission added that the court issued an arrest warrant for the convicted person in accordance with the provisions of Article (19/Second and in conjunction with Article 16/First) of the Integrity Commission Law, and ordered a proper search to apprehend him. Furthermore, the Integrity Commission has been granted the right to claim compensation for damages after the ruling becomes final.
